THIS IS NOT YOUR MOTHER’S — OR YOUR FATHER’S — CAMPAIGN FUNDRAISER

PALM SPRINGS — Palm Springs City Councilmember Christy Holstege, who is making a second run to represent District 47 in the state Assembly, is holding a campaign fundraiser like no other.

Holstege is asking supporters to save the date — Wednesday, August 23rd —for a Birthday Bash and Drag Show at Toucans in Palm Springs in support of her bid for Assembly. The campaign fundraiser will feature drag performers Marina Mac and Sassy Ross.

“This will be an event you don’t want to miss,” Holstege said in announcing the event.

“We wanted to do something really fun for a birthday and campaign event,” Holstege told Uken Report. “Usually, campaign fundraisers are these dull affairs where a couple of people speak and then you’re asked to give a check. Instead, we thought, ‘let’s just have a party’, and I decided to host it at Toucans which is a super fun Palm Springs tiki bar that features weekly drag shows. I’m so excited that we were able to get two of my favorite performers– Marina Mac and Sassy Ross – to perform! Yes, it’s a birthday party and a campaign fundraiser, but it’s really a way to celebrate our LGBTQ+ community, which is enduring relentless attacks right now from the right. Bottom line: this is going to be a blast, and you’re not going to want to miss it!

Holstege turns 37 on Aug. 18.

Holstege raised more than $250,000 by the first quarter reporting deadline, June 30th.

The district she wants to represent is rooted in the Coachella Valley and San Gorgonio Pass and includes Palm Springs, Desert Hot Springs, Rancho Mirage, Idyllwild and Banning, along with portions of cities such as Palm Desert and Beaumont in Riverside County and Yucaipa, Calimesa and Yucca Valley in San Bernardino County.

Holstege lost to Republican Greg Wallis by 85 votes last year, a 0.05% margin in a race that saw 169,419 votes cast.
