AGM Brian Macy to serve as Interim General Manager

During its regularly scheduled July meeting, local elected officials and the Mission Springs Water District Board of Directors honored long-time General Manager Arden Wallum for his accomplishments and service to the District.

In his 18+ years with the District, Wallum led the organization through extraordinary times and difficult challenges while consistently moving the agency forward to become a recognized leader among state water and wastewater providers.

He also helped garner millions of dollars of federal and state grants for projects, including the District’s Groundwater Quality Protection Program, which has eliminated thousands of septic tanks in the area, and the construction of the nearly complete Nancy Wright Regional Water Reclamation Facility.

“Throughout his tenure, General Manager Wallum has exhibited unwavering dedication, exemplary leadership, and a commitment to Desert Hot Springs and our region,” said Board President Russ Martin. “His passion for our mission and his ability to inspire others have shaped the very fabric of our organization.”

The MSWD Board was joined by Desert Hot Springs Mayor Scott Matas and a representative from Congressman Raul Ruiz’s office during a special proclamation presentation. Also, during yesterday’s meeting, the Board voted 5-0 to extend a six-month employment agreement to Assistant General Manager Brian Macy to fill the general manager role starting August 8, 2023.

Macy is a Civil Engineer with over 30 years of water industry/engineering experience. He served as the General Manager of Indio Water Authority from September 2013 through November 2018 and then as the Assistant General Manager at Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District before joining MSWD in 2019.

“As we continue to navigate climate uncertainty, aging infrastructure, and new water use restrictions that will greatly impact the water industry, Brian’s experience and comprehensive understanding of sound water management principles will safeguard our capacity to meet future customer needs,” said President Martin. “I am confident in his ability to manage the District and maintain our position as a leader among the State’s water and wastewater providers.”
