Desert Hot Springs, August 24, 2023: Desert Hot Springs, CA – The impact of Hurricane Hilary on the City of Desert Hot Springs has been significant. Cleanup efforts have been swift and continuous, resulting in the reopening of nearly all main city streets. However, major sections of roadway along several of the city’s thoroughfares have been destroyed due to the unprecedented amount of rainfall, making them impassable.

The following sections of roadway will remain closed for the foreseeable future:
1. Dillon Road – between Ben Mar Drive and Cabot Road
2. Little Morongo Road – between Two Bunch Palms Trail and Dillon Road
3. North Indian Canyon Drive – between Mission Lakes Boulevard and Pierson Boulevard

For reference, a map of the affected areas is attached.

Drone footage of the extensive damage can be viewed on the city’s YouTube channel accessed here.

The estimated timeframe for completing construction is currently unknown. These roads will require a significant amount of time and resources to be rebuilt. Preliminary construction costs for repair are estimated at $22,400,000. During this timeframe, please do not attempt to cross through these areas. Vehicular access will not be permitted for the duration of the closures and strict road closure enforcement will be in place.

“The amount of damage to our roads from Hurricane Hilary is simply incredible,” stated Interim City Manager Doria Wilms. “The City of Desert Hot Springs understands the impact these closures will have on the community, and we appreciate everyone’s patience as we work diligently to reopen them as quickly as possible.“
